At five years old, April packs her favorite toy and boards a bus with her Mom and two siblings, heading thousands of miles north, away from her abusive, alcoholic father. Life gets better, then gets worse again.

An honest and raw story based on the true experiences of the author which should be read by every child who has ever lost hope in the face of adversity, every adult who found something deep inside to get through the darkest hours, and any role model who has ever answered "Yes" to a child who asked, "Do you believe in me?"

Rain Falling on Sunshine eBook April Charleson Wendy Lashomb

Written from the writer's growing up experiences as a child, both good and bad.. Interesting book, and a quick read. As the writer states, she may have ended the book in what some people may think was an odd spot, and I agree. I would like to know what she experienced over the next few years as she grew through her high school years but maybe that might become a good sequel.

Rain Falling on Sunshine eBook April Charleson Wendy Lashomb Reviews

Honest and true, real and an eye opener I cried, I envisioned and fell in love with April. Knowing April as an adult, I have respect for how hard she worked to overcome major obstacles.
A beautiful book written straight from the heart. This book will give hope to those who feel like they are trapped in poverty.
Absolutely loved this book! April, you are an inspiration to all, and I look forward to reading Part 2. Am honored that you were part of my daughter's life as her softball coach!! Wish all children were required to read your book as part of their schooling because way too many of them take too much for granted! Keep up the awesome work!!
BEAUTIFUL AND BRILLIANT just like the author. I could not put this book down. I received it yesterday and began and finished it all today. This book made me laugh, cry, smile, fear and hope. It broke my heart, gave me joy, and made me proud. This author doesn't just have an incredible gift---she is an incredible gift to this world. Thank you, April Charleson, for sharing your life with the world. You are a blessing!!!
Living life as a child with an abusive and alcoholic father is heart wrenching. Her resilience is amazing.
I chose a 4 rating because I felt that I needed to know more from the author. What happened to those children after the 911 call and arrest of the father? This should be a required reading for all jr high age students. The book has a mature subject matter that could easily be identified by this age group as relevant to to today's societal challenges. Further more, it may also help to teach this age group to be kinder and more accepting of their peers that they may perceive as different from themselves. Thank you to Ms. Charleson for being brave enough to share her story with everyone.
Having read many of April's blog posts, I had high hopes for her first book! I was not disappointed. The verse is both heart wrenching and beautiful, and April's honesty about such difficult content is eye opening and inspiring. This reminded me of other YA novels in verse such as Karen Hesse's Out of the Dust. I hope that one day this book graces as many classroom shelves as Hesse's!
